Why Should You Set Goals?

goal_settingWonder why some people could not even achieve an inch of what they dream of becoming? It is because of pure dreaming, and the lack of setting goals for achieving their dreams.

Setting goals is a very significant part of success and positive accomplishments. It is like scaling a 20 feet building and marking early on what feet you would like to reach at this specific period.

People who set goals literally create a map of their target achievements in life, marking where they should begin, where to pause, where to delve a bit, and where and when to stop. Once this map is created, it allows the map drawer to check where he is in the scheme of things and whether or not he is making some achievements that will take him closer to his goals.

By setting goals, people will know how they are doing and what they should be doing to achieve their targets or dreams in life. They will know if they can relax or if they have to double their efforts when they are falling short of what is expected of them.

Goal setting means a person is proactive in dealing with challenges that may affect his plans. Being proactive means one is able to outline possible difficulties that may occur as well as the solutions to these difficulties. By doing this, a person is not easily scared or defeated when challenges occur because he has already prepared for them. He knows they can happen and he has prepared a solution or strategy when that time comes.

Setting goals will enable people to track their progress in whatever endeavor they have set out to do. It will help people become more confident in themselves and more motivated to achieve their plans.

However, goal setting is not enough, as this should be accompanied by a positive outlook and self-discipline. A person may have a blueprint of where he wants to go, but if he does not have the necessary discipline to carry out the plan, then nothing will come out of it.

To be successful in goal setting, the goals that one has set for himself should be realistic and based on his capabilities, as well as selected and important external factors. Being too ambitious in setting up goals can make the goals unrealistic and difficult to achieve. However, do not set goals that are too low because this might discourage one’s vision instead of achieving it.

It is also necessary that the person setting the blueprint for his direction should also include a time frame within which the goal will be achieved. This way, he is able to determine if he has to fast track his strategies or to slow down a bit. Goal setting will also help a person check if he is performing within his plans or if he is doing things towards the achievement of his plans.

Once you have achieved something, even a little of what you hoped to achieve, then you should always give yourself a pat in the back to keep you motivated. But do not be too complacent with any little achievement, as this may cause you to backslide.

Setting goals can be used in any aspect of one’s life – from one’s personal or family life, to his career and finances.  Goal setting can be as simple as setting a target weight when you wish to lose pounds or something big, like earning your first million.

When setting goals, it is always important to set standards that would suit your present situation, your capabilities, and other factors that may influence the achievement of your goal.

How To Determine What You Want In Life

What do you really want in life?

Most people never truly discover what they want in life.

Most people spend the best years of their lives watching television or doing things they dislike. An author described humanity by saying, most people die at twenty and are buried at eighty. Are you one of the living zombies?

What do you really want in life?

Some people struggle in answering such question. When asked what they want or what their goals in life are, many are unsure. They dillydally in their decision, hardly giving any thought about what they want in life. People without definite goals are letting time pass them by. Are you one of these people?

If you are undecided about what you want out of life, do not worry.  There are many ways of discovering your purpose in life.

To discover what you want in life, try looking deep into your heart. Oftentimes, people are ruled by logic. People live by what they think they should be or by what others like them to be. The discovery process is the perfect time to listen to your heart. What your heart desires comes from the whispers of your authentic self. Your authentic self is the real you.

Listen to your heart to be able to listen to your authentic self. What your heart says usually feels right. What your heart desires is what you usually love to do and this represents your passion. Anything done with passion is like play where the task is accomplished without hesitation. You pour out your very best and feel no pressure or resistance.

You will totally enjoy doing things that are your passion. Setbacks, difficulties, and obstacles will make it more challenging, but should not deter you from pursuing your goals. Naturally, there may be barriers that may prevent you from reaching your goal, but your heart’s desire will find ways to overcome these barriers so that you may ultimately get what you want in life. Remember this: the universe supports people who are pursuing their passion and those who are pursuing their destiny.

However, this does not mean that you don’t use your head. People are born with both the mind and heart. Your duty is to live your best life and be in harmony with your mind and heart. The poet Rumi wisely said, live completely in the head and you cannot feel the breath and rhythm of life. Live completely in the heart and you may find yourself acting like a love-struck fool with poor judgment and discipline”. It’s all a fine balance – the head and heart must forge a lifetime partnership if one wants to live a beautiful life.

Listen to your instinct. Part of human nature is the mysterious and spontaneous reaction on things. Often times, these are called instincts. Your authentic self communicates with you and guides you via instincts. Instincts are those gentle nudges that urge you to act and follow a certain path. Your role then is to listen attentively.

Often times, we listen to what others say and allow them to run our lives. Parents often do this to their children. We come from a family of doctors, so my son must also be a doctor. How often do we hear this from parents who have good intentions for their children? Parents unconsciously block the true expression of their child’s real self and calling. Friends and critics will discourage you and point out the impossibility of your dream. Before heeding their advice, evaluate the accomplishments of the critics. Did they achieve theirs dreams? Do they dream big at all?

Remember, it is your destiny that is in line, not theirs. It doesn’t mean, though, that you will not listen to what other people say. Hear them out just the same. But the final decision should be yours.

There is only one thing to remember: Every person, to live truly and greatly, must define how he wants to live and what his brightest life will look like. Listen to your instincts and follow your heart’s desire. You will never go wrong.

Using Positive Self-Talk to Conquer Any Goal

divine dialogueDo you feel like you are always talking yourself out of success? As soon as you start to set goals for yourself, do you suddenly have nagging thoughts about how you aren’t up to the task or how you simply aren’t qualified to carry it through? If you have ever experienced either situation, you need to change the way you respond to your inner dialogue. Instead of obeying your negative commands, you can use positive self-talk to counter the negativity and overcome nearly all anxious thoughts.

Setting Goals and Sticking to Them with Positive Self-Talk

Are you initially filled with excitement when you first set goals for yourself? Are these thoughts then followed by self-doubt and self-defeating thoughts that stop you in your tracks before you even get started? It can be difficult to make the most of your life when you are constantly talking yourself out of being a success. It can be frustrating and discouraging to have these thoughts constantly plaguing you.

Many of us, in fact, don’t even realize we have them! All we know is that we don’t have the confidence to stick to our plans and reach our goals. But there’s another way! Positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them, even if you have never been able to do this before.

The way this works is that you decide what goal is important to you, and then you plan the logistics of how you are going to attain this goal. When self-doubt starts kicking in, you will respond with affirmations that prove your success without surrendering to the negative pressure. Since you’re reading this article, it’s clear that you’re no quitter and you’re certainly not a failure, so start believing in yourself!

Re-Programming your mind affirmations are essentially positive statements that re-program your mind for the positive. The moment you have a self-defeating thought you’d be able to counter the negative with a motivating statement. An example of a positive affirmation is: “I am worthy of great success,” or “I see myself in the winner’s circle.” What this does is replace negativity with thoughts that will help you move toward your goals instead of further away from them.

Positive self-talk is easier to implement than you might think. You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently within your mind. However, once you begin with positive self-talk, you will suddenly realize that you are self-sabotaging the goals you set for yourself from the minute that you make them. This process can open your eyes to exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life. You’ll feel hopeful that you can now set goals and surpass them.

Through positive self-talk you will be able easily set long and short-term goals for yourself. And when you use affirmations, you’ll have accessible tools to help you push yourself further than ever before. Learning to quiet negativity with positive thoughts is a great move toward setting and attaining future goals with ease.

Stick to the Plan

Have you ever came up with a great idea and told someone else? What you usually hear is, if I were you, I wouldn’t do that or I don’t think you should try that, blah, blah, blah!

Unfortunately, most people are living their lives based on what others think or on what someone else wants them to do.

I started practicing the Law of Attraction at a fairly young age, because I realized that most of my experience up to that point was based on what others thought and I was attracting based on what they wanted for me.

No matter what, there will still be friends, family etc. that offer their opinions whether you want them or not. In their experience, they are perfectly comfortable with where you are. And I honestly think that most people are acting from their highest sense of love.

Sometimes moving forward in life, makes certain people feel that you won’t be part of their life anymore. And sometimes they are just acting from unresolved fear. But whatever the reasons are, you must stick to the plan!

I do think it’s important to make loved ones feel comfortable about what you are doing. If you can, include them in some of your plans.

If you’ve decided on a business you wanted to start, or pursing that long forgotten hobby, you must stay focused because you attract what you think about most, good or bad.

You can stick to the plan by practicing these simple techniques.

1. Keep your mind so focused on what you want, that there’s no room to focus on what others are thinking about you. Be specific.
2. Visualize your desire in as much detail as possible.
3. When doubt moves in, immediately change your thoughts to something positive
4. Spend some quite time alone meditating
5. Don’t forget to do something that makes you feel good. This really raises your energy and makes it easier to attract what you want.

Everyone views the world differently and it’s up to you to create your own reality. Don’t get me wrong, learning from others has tremendous value. I’ve learned some of life’s greatest lessons from others. And sometimes the opinions of others may or may not be valid, but I think you’ll know the difference. The ultimate decision is still up to you.

Decide now what you should hold on to or let go of. You’re the best guide in your life.

Stick to the plan and remember your inner world will always reflect your outer world.

Goal Setting and Affirmations: How Forgiveness Fit…

Anyone wanting to invoke the Law of Attraction – where positive thoughts attract positive energy – will sometimes be confronted with a blockage. No matter how often you use your affirmations to attain a certain desire, or the depth of sincerity with which you are affirming, it just doesn’t seem to be working. It could be that you are obstructing the very energy that you need to manifest what you want, because you are holding on to anger and resentment. The solution is simple: learn to forgive.

“Those who are at war with others are seldom at peace with themselves.” – Anonymous

By harboring negative feelings towards someone, whether they are living or deceased, you are maintaining a bond that keeps you connected to them. The energy that you are preserving is not only negative, but also stagnant. It will keep you from manifesting what you desire. Focusing on negativity will only get you more of the same. If you can manage to forgive, not only will this have a positive, uplifting effect on your well-being — the other person is also likely to experience the benefits.

A Gift to Yourself

Many people think that granting forgiveness is a sign of weakness, or a noble, altruistic act that you do for the other person, in which you condone what occurred in the past. In fact, you don’t have to reconcile to be able to forgive. Forgiveness is rather a “selfish” act, because it is something that you do for yourself. See it as a gift to yourself. By forgiving, you are breaking a negative tie, letting go of the past and allowing lightness and vibrancy into your life.

“As long as you don’t forgive, who and whatever it is will occupy rent-free space in your mind.” – Isabelle Holland

Anyone whom you feel anger, hurt and/or resentment towards is eligible to be forgiven. Start with the first person that pops into your mind while you’re reading this and work your way down your list — all the way to pre-school if you must! And don’t forget to forgive yourself. It will feel as if a huge load has been lifted off your shoulders, leaving you free to receive love, prosperity and abundance.

Some suggested affirmations: * I forgive you completely and freely. * I choose to be free and allow you to be free. * I freely forgive myself and others. * I let go of the past completely and release myself and you from it.

The Law of Attraction – More Than Goal Setting and Affirmations Alone

Did you know that every thought that we think creates a vibration? Negative thoughts create negative feelings that lead to low frequency vibrations, whereas positive thoughts create positive feelings that produce high frequency vibrations. According to the universal Law of Attraction, “vibes” attract like “vibes”.

Have you ever noticed how, when you’re feeling down and depressed, you attract situations that are in line with your state of mind? So logically, the key to attracting only the things that you desire into your life, is to vibrate positive energy. Okay, that sounds simple enough…but how do you DO that?”

If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think.” – Oprah

We spend far too much time worrying — about the future, about paying the bills, about upcoming exams, about our health, about getting that promotion. What we’re actually doing when we worry about any situation, is concentrating all our energy on something that we don’t want. Hate, worry, fear, jealousy, anger, sadness are all emotions that make us vibrate negatively.

By focusing on unwanted situations we are actually attracting the exact situations that we want to avoid! We would be doing ourselves a favor by focusing only what we DO want, instead ofwasting time and energy on the things that we DON’T want.

Opposites Do Not Attract

Obviously, no one can feel good all day long, every day. The key is to do the things that make you feel good as often as you can. Play uplifting music while you drive to work, avoid the television programs that produce negative feelings, don’t read the newspaper if the content affects you negatively, interact only with positive-minded people… just let go and have fun!Learn to monitor your thoughts…if you notice yourself thinking a negative thought, immediately negate its effect by focusing on something that makes you feel good.

Remember, there is nothing more important than feeling good! Keep a photo of your kids or pet or favorite actor nearby to help you make that switch. Be grateful for the things that are going well in your life. Do whatever it takes to generate that upbeat feeling, because opposites do not attract…but like certainly will attract like. The Law of Attraction is on the mark each time and it does not make mistakes!

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill

In order to get what you desire in life, you have to give those desires regular attention. Fantasize, dream, imagine, focus…for what you create in your mind, you create in reality. If it’s a specific car that you want, order a brochure of it and look through it every day. Think about what color you want and which accessories and options your model has.

If it’s a fantasy vacation in the Maldives or the Caribbean, compile your own colorful screensaver, fantasize about those white beaches and crystal clear waters abundant with tropical fish. Paste pictures of your dream home or that sleek yacht that you desire on aboard and look at it often. Be excited about it! Focus wholeheartedly and with certainty on what you want, and do so in this moment. Believe that you have what you desire now, today, in this present moment. Focus on how good that makes you feel, and try to generate that feeling as often as you can.

Don’t confuse the Law of Attraction by being inconsistent in your desires. Don’t keep changing your mind, otherwise there’s no way for what you ask for to find its way to you. Be consistent, be determined…but leave the “how” out of it. If you decide the method and schedule by which your desires will come to you, you’re limiting your possibilities to only what you can think of. After all, what if there’s something better out there than what you can imagine? Just trust that it is happening now and allow it to come to you. Follow where your intuition leads you. Don’t worry about it, don’t look for proof, don’t start doubting.

Affirmations are a form of advertising

If you do find that doubts and negative self-talk are getting in your way, you can apply positive affirmations. When used consistently, affirmations will do away with your limiting beliefs and replace them with thoughts that will help you achieve what you desire. Does advertising work? Sure it does-there’s a multibillion dollar industry that proves it and affirmations are a form of advertising with only you as the target audience.

Affirmations must be stated in the “I” form, in the present tense and always positively. They should also invoke a positive emotion. For instance: “I deserve large sums of money that allow me to have more fun with my family”, “I choose to effortlessly earn $100,000 per year”, “I enjoy working out regularly and maintaining a trim and slim body that turns heads”, “I choose to attract only healthy and positive people into my life who help me achieve my goals”; “I choose to create a positive, healthy and joyful lifestyle for myself”. You can write them down everyday, or use them as a screensaver, or buy special affirmation or goal setting software that you can use on your computer.

If you’re skeptical about how the Law of Attraction can affect you, just try being happy and positive for a month. It will amaze you how easy it is to get things going your way in that short period of time. A lot can be achieved in relatively little time — why waste any of it by being negative? Get out there and manifest what you want!

New Years Resolutions — 7 Keys to Victory

Whether you call them unproductive patterns, limiting beliefs, or simply bad habits, for some reason, as a new year approaches, many of us resolve to make some changes. The resolve part is easy. How do we actually execute a successful change campaign?

A few times a year, a hypnotherapist colleague and I conduct self-hypnosis workshops. An integral component is goal-setting. The following recommendations are part of that.

1. Realistic & a Slight Stretch

Be reasonable in what you choose to change. You’re the one who has to implement this plan. Examine your motives for this change. Is it for yourself, or to please others? Make your target just a bit beyond what you think you are capable of.

2. Be Clear

As it says in the book, The Law of Attraction, make a list of what you don’t want as a step in creating your list of you do want. Form a WRITTEN affirmation that is positive. Avoid the use of negative words (don’t, won’t).

3. Be Specific & Flexible

Avoid comparative words (less, better, more). One of the main advantages of establishing goals is that they provide motivation and direction. If you fall short of your stated goal, don’t beat yourself up. Celebrate what you have achieved.

4. Paced & Measurable

One of the reasons many people don’t bother with setting goals is that the process to achieve them often seems daunting. This is easily overcome by chunking goals into smaller units. For instance, monthly or even weekly mini-goals can be more palatable.

5. Announce Your Goals

Find friends or colleagues who will support you in your objectives. Share your plans and timelines. Now, your reputation is on the line.

6. In Your Face

For the most part, the mind processes information visually. In addition to whatever words you use to describe your goals, begin cutting out representative pictures from magazines. Paste them on posters and put them all over your world. That means bedroom, bathroom, car, desk, and anywhere else you can think of. Information that is captured by your peripheral vision is not usually analyzed by the conscious mind. This means that as you walk by your posters, your peripheral vision will convey that data directly to your subconscious mind, thereby reinforcing your goals. In addition, even if you haven’t been trained in self-hypnosis, you can relax with soft music and visualize your goals. Make your visualizations as vivid as possible.

7. Changing Habits

Many people think that it takes 21 to 30 days to form a new habit. Actually you can establish a new habit in only 5 days. What takes up to 30 days is the release of the old habit. Once the new habit is formed, it competes with the old habit for dominance. Every time you exercise the new habit it gets stronger, and the old one becomes weaker. The reverse is also true.

You Must Set Goals!

We all have dreams for a better life, a life where things are exactly how we want them. Whether it’s our finances, our family, our health, our contribution to society, or all of the above, we all imagine how our life would look if it was perfect.

The difference between the people who do eventually get to live the life of their dreams and those who don’t is goal setting. We all have goals. With that said, you must write your goals down if you are to ever achieve them.

The difference between a fulfilling life and an average life are the goals you set for yourself. Yet, why do only a few people ever write their goals down?

Did you know that studies have shown that most people will never write down a goal?

By setting goals in each area of your life, you give yourself a target, something to achieve. This is one of the best ways to measure your progress.

A lot of people never set goals because of fear of failure, and fear of the unknown. The fear of failure is the biggest obstacle that we all must overcome in every part life. And the fear of the unknown is the fear of moving outside of our comfort zone and into a world that’s unknown to us.

Unless you’re currently living the life you desire, your dreams lay outside of the realm of your current comfort zone, in the unknown. Take the first step in creating the life you desire and start writing your goals down today.
